DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT began consulting for Harvard University in 1991, originally as Affirmative Action Management Associates (AAMA). The University sought to address demonstrations and sit-ins protesting the lack of minority tradesmen and contractors working on the campus. AAMA identified minority and women owned businesses for work and created a goal based process to promote and monitor minority and female hiring. Additionally, it was responsible for ensuring conformance with the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Program regulations.  DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT continues to advise the University and monitors all its capital construction projects.

DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT has since grown its client base to include public and private institutions. We develop compliance programs and standards for developers, owners and construction managers. We create and manage employment and training programs. We coordinate diversity studies and compliance reviews.

Over the past twenty years, we have acquired extensive experience with federal, state, municipal and institutional contracting and work force standards. DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT’s principal has directed compliance functions at the $14 Billion Central Artery/ Tunnel Project (the “Big Dig”) – America’s largest construction project. His team enforced and monitored federal EEO and DBE requirements, as well as wage and hour laws. DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT has also drafted and implemented state guidelines working in conjunction with Massport, the Massachusetts Highway Department, the Mass Bay Transit Authority, which now comprise the Mass Department of Transportation (Mass DOT).   DIVERSITY DEVELOPMENT regularly interfaces with municipalities regarding affirmative action and resident employment programs, such as the Boston Resident Jobs Policy and the Worcester Plan.

We assist minority and woman owned businesses in attaining SOMWBA certification and promote them for work on major projects. We facilitate joint ventures between MBEs, WBEs, and majority firms to ensure capacity and enable compliance with contracting goals. We create, implement, manage and assess data collection systems.
